The Liebig's Extract of Meat Company (Lemco) was the originator of Liebig and Oxo meat extracts and later Oxo beef stock cubes. It was named after Baron Justus von Liebig, the German 19th-century organic chemist who founded it. This company also made tinned corned beef and exported frozen/chilled raw meats in the 1800's under the label of Fray Bentos (the company that makes the Fray Bentos Pies). It was called Fray Bentos as this was the town to which their industrial plant started in Uruguay.
