Now TV Review

Well, I've finally got myself a new TV and a Now TV box. There are some positives and negatives with this, however I feel that the main negative is a big one.

Positive

  • You can install apps such BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD, Demand Five, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, IGN, HooplaKidz, Vevo, Flickr, Picasa etc.
  • This can then be used to stream your pictures, videos or watch catch-up TV.
  • You get access to Sky packages - movies, entertainment or sports at various rates including day or month passes so you can pay as you go.
  • Free 30 day trial of movies when you join so you can watch films such as Django Unchained, Pacific Rim, Epic, The Internship and many many more on demand (just remember to cancel the subscription before hand if you don't wish to pay thereafter).

Negative

  • You don't appear to be able to favourite the things you want to watch when you come across them and the films you have watched in MyTV doesn't appear to actually record them.
  • And the main one, a number of times we have been free to watch without problems, however there has been about 3 occasions so far when half way through the film, Now-TV have had technical problems and we have had to watch the film the next day. Very annoying. The main thing is that looking on the boards which seem pretty good, it has happened too many times.
Conclusion

If you want to turn your TV into a Smart TV using WiFi and HDMI cable, then this is the tool for you. Really good, however I'm certainly having second thoughts over the subscriptions side for Sky with all the reported problems. They really need to sort ASAP.
